A couple years ago, Graffiti wasn’t the chic’est thing in high fashion. And perhaps it was Louis Vuitton that was responsible for starting this trend; remember the Sprouse Graffiti?

The idea of putting graffiti on expensive bags was a bold move, because it wasn’t seen as luxury, but more like street art. Later on, Chanel came up with the graffiti backpack in 2014 and there were mixed opinions about the design. But in the end, it became the hottest trend and more designer brands were adopting this style as the new normal.

The design

Introducing the Balenciaga Graffiti Print. This colorful print has been embellished on the iconic Classic City Bags. It’s now one of the best street-chic accessories of the house.

The graffiti is done in combination of multiple colors and letters in different shape. It’s like street art – very sophisticated but eye-catching. The words painted on the bag are not randomly picked, they have a meaning. For example, the logo Balenciaga in big lettering and the address 40 Rue de Sevres is one of their stores in Paris at Le Bon Marche.

No leather part was left behind; the graffiti print has been painted on the front, on the back and even on the handles. It gives the Classic City Bag a different feel and more urban as opposed to the original version which felt more like motorcycle-chic.

The Classic City Bag

For those that are interested in the Classic City Bag, it’s made in lambskin and it comes with a long leather shoulder strap. The exterior features a front zip pocket while the interior is made with zip pocket, double phone compartment and a framed mirror. The small size is measured 11.7’ x 7.8’ x 3.9’ (W x H x D) inches, priced at $1995 USD, €1550 euro, £1345 GBP, ¥230040 JPY, $16000 HKD.

The medium size is measured 14.8’ x 9.4’ x 5.5’ (W x H x D) inches and is priced at $2150 USD, €1650 euro, £1395 GBP, ¥244080 JPY, $17100 HKD available via Balenciaga boutiques.

Burberry Beasts: The Bold And The (Oddly) Beautiful

Categories:Other Brands

Call them odd, quirky or unique, there’s no denying that these bags from Burberry’s Beasts collection have caught your attention. Why? Because everyone else’s bags all look way too similar, it is certainly interesting, a bold step in fact, that the storied British luxury house’s latest bags embody the oddly beautiful in the form of mythical beasts.

A menagerie made up of fish, owls and swans, they come in an eclectic mix of colourful water snake trims on a leather body. Inspired by the fauna found in age-old English manuscripts, these bags may not fit much, but are to be celebrated for their craftsmanship and fine detailing. Handcrafted in Italy, each bag takes up to nine hours to produce, in large due to the amount of work needed to piece the individual pieces together, evident in the life-like scalloped scales on the fish, the movable wings on the owl and even the petal-shaped skins accented with gold-toned metal hardware on the swan.

Priced at SGD6595 for the Fish Crossbody Bag and the Owl Crossbody Bag, these 2 are only available via Burberry’s online store. As for the Swan Crossbody Sling, you can purchase it from MatchesFashion at SGD4540, while the Mini Buckle Bag featuring owl eyes (SGD1495) is available only at Burberry’s online and brick-and-mortar stores.

What’s the Last Bag You Bought?

Moving is always a nuisance, but trying to move in New York City is a special circle of hell, especially when you’re only willing to look in a trendy neighborhood where rents are at an all-time high and apartments go especially quickly. (In my case, because I already live there and want to stay near my friends and my bagel place.) Not only is it stressful and precarious, but it’s also eye-wateringly expensive; sometime in the next week, I’m going to write a check to some dude from the internet for several thousand dollars for unlocking a door and letting me look at an apartment for 90 seconds. Suffice it to say I haven’t bought a bag in a while.

Unless you’re mega-rich (and the vast majority of bag buyers aren’t, despite the luxurious nature of the industry), this is probably a cycle you’ve been through with your own shopping habits many time. Megs has talked about her own fluctuations before, too—life events like buying a house or having a baby tend to reshuffle monetary priorities, sometimes temporarily and other times, for good. My rent will be going up a bit, but thankfully, things in my life (and in my bank account) should be back to normal in a couple months. For now, though, I want to live vicariously through all of you.

If I weren’t preparing for an expensive life event like moving, my eye would be on the Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis Bag in inverse monogram canvas. I’ve been eyeing this design for a while and have written about the Pochette Metis in general before, but I think this version is my favorite right now. The size is perfect, and for me, Louis Vuitton monogram reads as a neutral that I feel comfortable pairing with pretty much anything.

Categories:Other Brands

Introducing the Valentino Resort 2018 Runway Bag Collection. Pierpaolo Piccioli has presented his latest collection last May in New York, once again. The Creative Director has taken his inspiration from the Netflix hip-hop series The Get Down by Baz Luhrmann, which was also set in New York in the late 1970s. The collection features sporty vibe like track suits and jackets, but still presents the signature intricate flowy dresses. A mix of bold colors and embroideries were seen not only in the ready-to-wear items, but also in the handbags. The Demilune that was introduced for the Pre-Fall 2017 Collection is back this season, and now comes in shoulder bags. While the iconic Rockstud are made available in a variety of styles, like bowling bag, flap bag, saddle and even a heart shaped minaudiere. The brand has also joined the Bag Belt trend, creating their own version with their classic studs. The regular studs are seen in white this season, making it more striking. Canvas and denim tote bags were also presented in the runway.
