Gucci Spring-Summer 2016

Categories:Other Brands

‘Every cloud has a silver lining,’ goes an ancient saying. In the case of the newly released Spring-Summer 2016 editions of Gucci’s Dionysus bags that are now in stores locally, their cloud also comes with a phoenix, a bee and what looks like a giant chrysanthemum amongst the flora. An exercise in more on more on the GG supreme canvas no less, the 30 cm by 21 cm shoulder sling is decidedly beautiful, and one that clearly shows the new artistic leanings of the storied Italian luxury house under the rein of Creative Director Alessandro Michele.
If, however, you prefer something with winged creatures of a more delicate kind, there’s also this variation, complete with large bright blooms surrounding a single butterfly.
This lovely piece features the classic Gucci signature print. That would be the delicate geranium print on the flap. Geraniums are certainly an under appreciated flower. I love them though and I think it’s pretty neat to see them being used here. The geraniums are printed over the signature print fabric, giving the design almost a painted-on appearance. Overall, I think the geraniums fit in quite nicely here, complimenting the structured shape of the bag and contrasting with the signature print. I also love the chain strap and classic Gucci buckle. This bag is definitely meant for the fall season, despite the cheerful flower print. It would look lovely paired with fall colors such as brown and burgundy.

Gucci. Does anyone remember this designer? That may sound like a silly question, but Gucci has SO not been on my radar lately. Sure, they produce some gorgeous, iconic pieces. But after awhile, everything from Gucci just felt sort of “blah” to me. But when I saw the handbag you see pictured here, my interest in this designer was renewed. Introducing the Gucci Testa Tigre Medium Geranium GG Blooms Shoulder Bag!

Gucci Unifies Women’s & Men’s Runway Shows to Eliminate Gender Gap

Categories:Other Brands

Marco Bizzari, CEO of Gucci, made an interesting announcement during the New York Times International Luxury Conference in Versailles on Tuesday. He presented the news that Gucci will be breaking the mold from the traditional runway staging, by combining the runway shows for men and women, beginning for the fall 2017 lines, this way eliminating the gap between genders.

Gucci Unifies Women’s & Men’s Runway Shows to Eliminate Gender Gap

“Alessandro Michele has in fact always presented his men’s and women’s collections together, so this is a very natural progression,” Bizzari explained to New York Times. “Moving to one show each season will significantly help to simplify many aspects of our business. Maintaining two separate, disconnected calendars has been a result of tradition rather than practicality.”

This type of structure would make things a lot easier for the brand and for the audience as well. Imagine being able to secure one seat at aGucci runway show, rather than having to worry about attending two different events altogether. Plus, the brand will be able to conserve time and resources by not spanning out the time to two different days, or perhaps even different locations. One set up, one showing. This will make things especially easier for Michele, who will now be producing four collections for the label, rather than the traditional six, but there are also more introspective connotations for the designer.

“It seems only natural to me to present my men’s and women’s collections together,” he said in a public release. “It’s the way I see the world today. It will not necessarily be an easy path and will certainly present some challenges, but I believe it will give me the chance to move toward a different kind of approach to my storytelling.”

Despite the reasoning behind the transition, Gucci is following in the footsteps of several other designers who have announced the same or similar plans for their runway showings. Burberry, Tom Ford, and Vetements have all announced their intent to combine their menswear and womenswear runway shows in the near future. The traditional runway setting is a bit outdated, as today the average consumer has expectations for the gap between genders; the added benefit is clearly the increased ease and accessibility for all parties involved in runway shows.

The clear difference between Gucci and the aforementioned brands is the rate of sale. The other brands have all also expressed intent to provide a see-now-buy-now runway experience, while Gucci will be sticking to the standard six-month waiting period before the products become available for purchase. And for a luxury brand, such a system is rectified.

The only downfall to this unified system of showing clothes is the harm it may bring due to the split-gendered Fashion Weeks. If brands continue on this trend, as they likely will with trailblazer brands leading the way, it will be impossible to sustain need for both sets of Fashion Week. Perhaps we will even see one diminish completely so all brands get one slot for each season, which combined with the increased online accessibility might further convince people to stay home and watch rather than braving the crowds. This would also result in a lowered revenue in the host cities. Although, regardless of concerns, there will be no stopping these brands from going down this path, so we would all be best off to embrace the change for its positive attributes.

We’ll be staying tuned for the next announcement on this topic, as it has not yet been disclosed which Fashion Weeks the unified runway show will be shown. But regardless of when, Gucci did announce that its unified runway show will take place in Milan on Via Mecenate, the location of Gucci’s new headquarters.

A DAY WITH GUCCI SPRING 2016 AND THE NEW GUCCI SYLVIE BAG

Categories:Other Brands

My personal affinity for Gucci bags has flourished with designer Alessandro Michele leading the brand. I’m not alone; seemingly every major fashion insider feels the same way, and I’ve spotted the brand’s bags, clothing and shoes on many of the most stylish men and women in the world.

When it comes to the bags, the Gucci Dionysus lead the way for Michele’s Gucci, but there is a new bag in town: the Sylvie. If the Dionysus is the brand’s bold, often-embellished, monogram option, the Gucci Sylvie Bag is its ladylike, structured sister. The Sylvie feels old and new all at once, pairing classic Gucci visual signatures with a modernity befitting the brand’s new era.

Rendered in leather, the structured shoulder bag comes in three colors and offers two interchangeable straps: one in smooth, classic leather and another in color-coordinated bi- and tri-color web ribbons. The ribbon strap works much better than you’d expect; I tried it on and was pleasantly surprised by how nicely it hung from my shoulder. Because the ribbon strap can be doubled up and tied in a variety of different ways, you can suit the length to your liking.

Colors offered for the Sylvie include off-white, hibiscus red and black, and each gives you a totally different look. Personally, I’m obsessing over the off-white for spring and summer lights, as well as the red for a colorful statement piece. The front of the bag features an eye-catching metal chain and buckle closure. On the inside, you’ll find microfiber lining and an open pocket, plus one for your smartphone. With dimensions of 10″W x 6.75″H x 3″D, this bag eschews the micro bag trend but is not oversized; in fact, the interior is just right to fit my wallet, phone and beauty items in an organized, easily accessible way. You can buy the Sylvie in red, off-white, and black via Gucci for $2,490.

To bring the Sylvie to life, we decided to document a day in the life of this bag, alongside some of our favorite Gucci Spring 2016 clothing, shoes and accessories.

Introducing the Next Must-Have Bag, The Gucci Lady Web

Categories:Other Brands

Left: Gucci Lady Web Suede Shoulder Bag - $2,100. Right: Gucci Lady Web Hand Stained Leather Shoulder Bag - $2,700

Gucci always hits it out of the park, and the brand’s latest line only proves what a tremendous run Gucci has been on with its handbags. I carry my Bamboo Shopper so often that it’s one of my most-used bags, and after the release of the Jackie Soft Bags, I was hooked as well. The next must-have from Gucci is Lady Web, which takes inspiration from Gucci’s vintage style and gives it a modern twist.

Gucci Lady Web Bags

The Gucci Lady Web bags all come with two straps, one with the iconic tricolor Gucci webbing and the other in a material that matches the bag itself, either suede or leather. For the body of the bag, there are options of suede, original GG canvas, brown hand-stained leather, python and crocodile, most of which come in several sizes. Lady Web beautifully combines the brand’s chic past with the glorious present in a way that is gorgeously, unmistakably Gucci.

I immediately felt the lust for this collection, and it’s a feeling I’ve become so accustomed to with Gucci. My style has always been more laid-back, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want a classic handbag that fits my personal aesthetic. Lady Web powerfully melds the idea of a casual bag with timeless design, much of which comes from the unexpected canvas strap option. It’s a casual note that balances the bag’s structured, elegant body.

The body of the bag integrates a small horsebit, which is iconic to the brand, on top of a small flap to secure the bag itself. Because of the structure of the bag, it’s easy to access whatever you put inside, which is something near and dear to any bag lover’s heart. It’s big enough to carry whatever you may need, but it’s not cumbersome to wear or difficult to organize.

Each of these bags echoes seventies glamour, and it’s the interchangeable shoulder straps that immediately change this bag’s look. From day-to-day wear to dressing it up a little more, this bag fits into each category and everyone’s style. I’m so incredibly drawn to these bags, and after using them for a few days, I’m even more confident in telling you this is a style each and every one of you would love. Gucci found its niche in the premium designer space and continues to grow its brand loyalty and following, starting with me. Prices for Lady Web range from $1,650 for canvas to $18,000 for crocodile, and you can shop the collection via Gucci.
