Pre-Order 3.1 Phillip Lim’s Awesome Spring 2014 Accessories at Moda Operandi

3.1 Phillip Lim Wednesday Cracked Leather Boston Satchel

Fashion Week is fun and all, but it’s a different kind of fun to check out collections once they hit their first pre-orders at Moda Operandi, usually mere days or weeks after first debuting on the runway. It allows us to find out design names and prices of our favorite bags, like these from 3.1 Phillip Lim Spring 2014, a lot sooner than we normally would, plus it gives consumers a peek at the non-runway accessories that we can expect from the brands once full collections hit stores.

Lim’s accessory presale is the first to really give us pause this season. Not only is the brand new 3.1 Phillip Lim Wednesday Bag included in several different iterations, including the standout cracked leather version from the runway, but so are Ryder bags in new colors. The fan-favorite Pashli gets both a super-trendy holographic finish (for the mini version) and a super-trendy backpack shape, both of which sort of feel like Lim throwing a bone to the accessories fads of the moment. Check out the accessories from the sale below (it also includes shoes) or shop the full selection via Moda Operandi.

3.1 Phillip Lim’s Spring 2014 Handbags Go Back to Nature

3.1 Phillip Lim Spring 2013 Handbags (5)

When I say that a collection swings a little bit Prada, that’s generally a compliment, both in general (Prada is great by post estimations) and in particular when it comes from me (I am an unrepentant Miuccia fangirl). Phillip Lim is likely a fan himself, or at least his accessories designers are – 3.1 Phillip Lim’s Spring 2014 Handbags at times felt like an homage to the Italian powerhouse.

If you took all of the extra bits and pieces off the fronts of these bags (and seriously, why is there so much stuff hanging from them?), what you’re left with are largely simple shapes with flat, squared top handles that are only appropriate for hand-carrying, like the bag you see above. With its marbled finish (recalling both Prada Spring 2010 and last season’s Balenciaga), Saffiano Lux Tote shape and the aforementioned flat handles, which Prada uses periodically, if seen out of context, I’d be hard-pressed to guess it were anything but Prada.

I don’t necessarily mean any of that to sound like a criticism; in fact, the bags that were the most Miuccia-esque were the best of the collection, and the marbled version above is one of my favorite bags of the new season thus far. The small, boxy bags and miniature shoulder bags with straps too short for shoulder carry (why do designers keep trying to make those happen?) were interesting, but give me a wide, flat, printed version any day of the week. Lim has a knack for handbags, and those will be the big sellers when this collection hits stores, mark my words.

Want It Wednesday: Rachel Zoe, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Gucci and Chloe

Want It Wednesday Phillip Lim Chloe Rachel Zoe Gucci

How, you ask, do we have time to find new Fall 2013 things that we’re craving amid all the Spring 2014 Fashion Week fervor? Easy – we’re professionals. Professional thing-wanters, if nothing else. (Not a bad gig if you can get it.) This week for Want It Wednesday, we’ve managed to sit still long enough to find some stuff we’d like to put on our credit cards rightthisveryminute, and we’d also like to welcome back someone who you guys might remember as Intern Katherine – she’s a full-fledged, college-graduated human now, and a full-time member of the PurseBlog team!

If you’ve been following along with the collections at New York Fashion Week, you know that things going forward are looking a little more streamlined, a little modern. I, for one, am breathing a sigh of relief – this stuff is much more my speed, compared to the bling-and-brights look that fashion’s had going for the past few seasons. To incorporate that kind of slick, well-edited design into my wardrobe right this very minute, I’m lusting after the Rachel Zoe Faceted Bar Bracelet. The squared-off shape is just unexpected enough to draw a bit of attention, but the pared-down look epitomizes a simplified version of style that seems so appealing right now.

The second the chilly fall air arrives, you can bet I’ll be snuggling into plenty of oversized sweaters. With summer recently coming to an end, most New York City residents put away all their colorful clothes and go straight for their black winter attire, but not me. As a native Florida girl, I like to wear color for as long as it’s deemed acceptable. Searching for an appropriate colorful sweater for fall can be a bit of a struggle, but thanks to this 3.1 Phillip Lim Zim-Trimmed Techno Neoprene Sweatshirt, I’ve met my match. It’s bold, bright and can easily pair with a skinny black or printed pant. Now the question is, how can I make it mine? If you’re in the need for neoprene you can purchase this sweatshirt

There is something about a good wallet that really makes me a happy person. I mean, when you think about it, wallets might get even more use than some of your handbags. That’s why always keep my eye out for a new one. This week, I have my eye on the Chloe Aurore Wallet. The rose calfskin leather is simply gorgeous. Like any well-crafted wallet, when you open it, you’ll find a zipper pouch and plenty of storage. Plus, the signature padlock adds a unique touch. I’d be more than happy to swap out my current wallet for this one!

While we may be having summer-like weather here in NYC at the moment, I am yearning for the day when I can wear all of my fall apparel. That day may not be today, but I can dream, can’t I? And while I’m at it, I’ll also be dreaming about this Gucci Fur-Trimmed Wool & Silk Shawl. Fall is by far my favorite season because most fall styles exemplify effortless elegance. If we accessorize correctly, a pair of skinny jeans, boots, and an oversized top instantly look urbane. That’s why I am going gaga for this Gucci shawl. I will admit, sometimes oversized pieces are hard to pull off, especially on petite frames (I am only 4’11″), but because this is a layering piece, anyone can carry this look. Until the weather cooperates and my purse strings expand, I will just keep dreaming.

Check Out All the Bags from 3.1 Phillip Lim x Target

Generally speaking, high-low designer collaborations have seen better days. They were all the rage for a while – Lanvin x H&M, anyone? – but at some point, they jumped the shark. I’m not sure whether that moment was the Missoni x Target online ordering fiasco or the Neiman Marcus x Target x Every Designer In America three-way flop, but it happened, and ever since then, our expectations have been low, if not nonexistent. 3.1 Phillip Lim x Target is here to restore some of our faith in high-low.

Most collaborations focus on clothing, which is easier to reasonably replicate for a fraction of the original price, but Lim went all-in on a capsule collection of inexpensive bags for both women and men as well. Some of the bags are faux-leather reinterpretations of Lim hits, most notably the Pashli, but there are also some new shapes, including an orange-and-purple leopard tote that’s the star of the accessories collection and a handsome blue camouflage backpack for men. Some fans will probably be mad at the Pashli spin-offs, but it’s exactly the type of bag that Target would imitate anyway, so Lim might as well get some of the credit (and revenue) for those cheaper versions.

Check out the entire bag collection for both men and women below; these pieces will reportedly retail for between $20 and $50 when the collection goes on sale at Target stores September 15.
